Release Manager

  • Implement software systems in a phased approach of requirements analysis and conceptual design, site survey, system design review, critical design review, installation, integration, and testing with minimal oversight. 
  • Primarily responsible for introducing release units to the environment and coordinating changes to applications and infrastructure.
  • Ensure that the business justification for making the change is documented and that changes do not have an adverse impact on systems or customers by mitigating the risks of the release unit or change being introduced.
  • Apply process engineering and analytical skills to help implement, facilitate, measure and analyze the effectiveness of releases and changes to the environment with a particular focus on the impact to the customer.
  • Serve as a point of interface to third party suppliers for the Change Management process.
  • Participate in CAB meetings and represent changes to the board for approval.
  • Define and manage the release management process by planning software releases to the environment and coordinating activities related to both change management and release units.
  • Create and refine release policies, accept releases for deployment, build deployment packages, develop release validation procedures, and coordinate communication activities related to the release.
  • Work with project teams throughout the SDLC lifecycle and prepare release units for introduction into the environment.
  • Measure effectiveness and efficiency of the process by monitoring actual state of deployed release unit to the defined release unit.
  • Analyze existing systems and define, design and develop new integrated system requirements. 
  • Determine system specifications, input/ output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.   
  • Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system.
  • Enforce change compliance, working closely with technical and business teams when required to ensure changes are fully documented and approved prior to implementation.
  • Ensure proposed release units and changes are fully evaluated and assessed for risk prior to approval and implementation.
  • Measure the protection of services by tracking unplanned outages and unplanned loss of service.
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies.
  • Support quarterly configuration audits of deployed assets against baseline expectations.

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years Release and Configuration Management experience.
  • 5 years with collaboration software, such as MS Project, SharePoint, Jira.
  • 5 or more years experience with software configuration tool such as PVCS, Subversion, Git, Rational, and Visual Source Safe (VSS).
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • VA and/or Healthcare IT experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with agile/SCRUM lifecycle management.
  • Experience working on CMMI Level 3 programs.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet, MS Office and Database applications.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment without losing ability to multi-task.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • May require some work beyond standard hours.
